Insect Collection Curatorial Assistantship

The UMass Insect Collection in Fernald Hall, part of the UMass Natural History Collections, comprises approximately 100,000 specimens collected over the last 165 years. It is a vital resource for documentation of New England and worldwide insect biodiversity, and of how insect geographic distributions are changing. Paid curatorial assistantships are available to help manage the collection. Responsibilities may include organizing the collection and adjacent workspaces, triaging and sorting specimens, anti-pest measures such as freezing specimen drawers, maintaining fluid levels for fluid-preserved material, moving specimens to improved pest-resistant housing, entering specimen data into databases, and other collection duties as required.
