Summer internship in Srimathveeravalli Research Group
The Srimathveeravalli Research Group (SRG) has a paid, 10-week summer internship opportunity. The duration of work can be anytime in the months of June - August (before semester start).
SRG studies biological responses to electric fields. We recently discovered that electric fields act on the cytoskeleton of cells, resulting in perturbation of barrier function of endothelial cell monolayers. We use microfluidic devices and microphysiologic systems to understand this behavior, and are developing this technology as a novel means to control the biomechanical behavior of endothelial cells.
The intern will be paid a stipend of $6400 for the ten week period. The summer intern will work with one of our graduate students on constructing microfluidic devices, assisting in experiments, performing microscopy based assays and learning lab techniques. The intern will also be provided training in research techniques and get to participate in college of engineering-wide summer REU activities.
Prof. Srimathveeravalli will also provide mentored guidance for the student on an ongoing basis, and help professional and career development.
